Day XXXV in New Zealand

Day 35
Friday 05 December 2003
Lower Hutt

We left Ohakune by using the SH1 to Wellington. Some parts of the straight way were very windy and broken up only by a few sharp bends. The landscape was very flat and didn´t have many optical attractions. On our map we found a 17 km long short cut to Lower Hutt and decided to leave the highway to Wellington to find a campground.
The motto of the whole journey of 200 km this day was "necessary evil" but everything was forgotten as we turned off the highway where we found a paradise of bends and an amazing view over the ocean.
With a big smile we enjoyed this welcome change. The only shortcoming of this way was its narrowness which forced us to went very carefull because of our sidecar being on the wrong side.
We went to Lower Hutt fighting with the the traffic jam and reached our campground thankfully.
